GREAT SHOW

I have always watch Marlon in television shows and movies and he has always been great and my favorite Wayan. I didn't know that he did stand up and being one of his biggest fans I just had to go see what he would be joking about. Well, HE DID NOT DISAPPOINT! Marlon was hilarious and he gave his all to his set. He was such a hit here in Philadelphia, (Philly) that all his shows sold out and he graciously added another show for his fans. I am so happy that I went to see him and had the opportunity to meet him after the show. He was a cool down to earth brother and I will forever support his endeavors. I cannot wait for his show this Fall as well as his upcoming movie coming out on Netflix in August. I'm a fan for life:)

All About the Venue

First things first - the headliner Marlon Wayans was fantastic. He was current, relevant, raw, and on point. The problems with the event had nothing to do with Marlon at all. The opener DC Ervin was pretty funny but had obviously not done his homework about Detroit. First, a joke about mass murder when we just had a tragic school shooting was insensitive to say the least. Also, we don't have Ross (Dress for Less) stores in Michigan - only because I have lived in California did I have any idea what he was talking about. Overall, he was still funny and pulled off warming up the crowd for Marlon. Let's talk about the venue, however. Greektown presented this event but it took place at the Music Hall - an intimate setting in a beautiful theater with plenty of convenient parking. But that's where the praise ends. I have never been to ANY event with a well-known celebrity and walked right into the venue with no pat-down, bag check, metal detectors, or at least a hand-held wand. All ushers were in an upper age group, and did little to deter guests recording the show with their phones, sitting in incorrect seats, and when a fight broke out in the balcony, it was Marlon Wayans asking for some assistance for those patrons. Absolutely ZERO security measures were in place. Anyone could have had a weapon in the venue, easily. This venue is a tragedy waiting to happen.

Um, Sir. You're a Legend too!

I went to this show chock full of enthusiasm to see one of the legendary Wayans brothers fulfill his promise as a stand up comedian. Because he is the one amongst the legacy that is closest in age to myself, I was eager to support this transition from film to stage. I've been following him for some time and have witnessed his maturation throughout the years. Unfortunately, I found his show topics to be very linear and not completely relevant to his skills and capabilities. It left me disappointed and wondering why his content wasn't more developed. I appreciated the background story that he offered on a few Hollywood notables, but I'd just like to remind him that he TOO is a legend and I hope that the next time that I go to his show his material reflects that and he doesn't spend an hour talking about other people for the entire time. We LOVE YOU MARLON!
